Jon E. Aamodt, PE


As a founding partner of Northland Consulting Engineers, Jon leads a highly qualified structural design team that provides a broad range of structural systems and delivery methods for all types of construction. His experience includes: Building Design, Industrial Facility Design, Building Expansions, Restoration/Reuse of Existing Facilities, Preservation of Historic Facilities, as well as Feasibility Studies and Condition Assessments.

Jon and his team are focused on delivering accurate engineering documents and working with the design team to deliver a quality product that is on time and within budget. Jon’s experience, expertise and dependability results in prompt, economical engineering solutions for clients for all projects.

Jon is currently registered to practice engineering in the following states: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Montana, Kansas, Texas, Florida, and New Mexico. He is registered with the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying which allows for prompt licensure to practice in most states in the United States.

Mark Udd, PE

Partner – Structural Project Engineer

Mark has over 20 years of structural engineering experience designing a wide variety of building types. He joined Northland Consulting Engineers in 1997 and concentrates his work in the area of structural engineering design and forensic structural engineering for architects and property owners.

Mark has been involved in providing engineering services for all types of construction projects including: New Building Design, Industrial Facility Design, Facility Equipment Support in Existing Buildings, Building Expansions, Feasibility Studies, Condition Assessments as well as Forensic Engineering.

He is a registered professional engineer in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota. He is active in many community and professional organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Tom Rines, PE, SE

Partner – Structural Project Engineer

With a background in carpentry and over 25 years of structural engineering experience, Tom has designed a wide variety of structures across the country. He began his engineering career on the west coast and relocated to Duluth in 2009 to join Northland Consulting Engineers. Tom has strengthened the firm by integrating innovative and thoughtful ideas into the daily workflow and overall design process. He is known for his pragmatic and creative approach to design. He’s not afraid to ask the hard questions to get thought-provoking discussions started that lead to creative structural engineering and design solutions for a project. .

Tom is a registered professional engineer in the states of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Ohio, Washington, and Wyoming. And, he is a member of Engineers without Borders and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).

David Bolf, PE

Partner – Civil Project Engineer

As Northland Consulting Engineer’s civil team lead, David has over 25 years working with developers, architects, agencies, municipalities, and the public as part of a multi-disciplinary team. His civil engineering project management experience is vast and includes: geometric highway design for local, state and federal aid projects, site planning and land development, utility design and coordination, permit preparation, water main and sanitary sewer design, and storm water management planning.

As project engineer, David has led numerous commercial and institutional site development projects in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He provides comprehensive involvement in a project from preliminary design through construction administration.

David is a licensed professional engineer in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and North Dakota and is a member of Duluth Chapter of ASCE.

Adam Zwak, PE

Partner – Civil Project Engineer

With over 7 years of civil engineering experience, Adam’s focus is on municipal roads, utility design as well as grading and stormwater planning. He handles the day to day project management throughout design and construction. For a majority of the projects within the region, he has designed the stormwater management systems using modeling software such as HydroCAD and WinSLAMM. These systems include detention and retention ponds, infiltration basins, filtration trenches, underground storage systems, culverts and outlet structures.

Adam also has experience in Permit Preparation, GIS Software, and Construction Inspection and has had the opportunity to work on both State and Federal Aid Projects. He is a registered Engineer in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
